I think the main thing that separates witchcraft and science is the belief (or lack thereof) that the concoction is magical.

“No Witchcraft for Sale,” by Doris Lessing, deals with the conflict between traditional medicine (the “witchcraft”) which was free, and the pharmaceutical industry’s profit interests. Who owns the knowledge about medicinial plants? Should this knowledge be patented and traded for profit like any other commodity?

It’s an overgeneralization, but witchcraft involves a lot of the use of natural herbs and other natural remedies to heal (or curse, although most witches wisely shy away from that because the curse returns to the roost!).
